Bio

Ciaran Nash (b. 1984) is an Irish artist whose visual artwork spans photography, installation, video and performance. He currently investigates the language of protest movements and the history of civil disobedience. Nash has exhibited nationally and internationally. Based in Limerick, he works out of Contact Studios and is a graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design (2014) where he studied Sculpture and Combined Media before earning his Master's in Social Practice and the Creative Environment. Select awards include Irish Arts Council Travel Bursaries in 2015 and 2017 and a Limerick Arts Office artist residence from 2017-'20. As a strong advocate of experiential learning, he has a dedicated track record in developing and delivering workshops for local universities' teacher training programs, as well as facilitating workshops for local mental health support groups. Recent exhibitions and projects include performative and installation pieces as part of his 'Occupy_SomethingSometimeSomewhere' project which has been developed on a short residency at Art Lab Roja 2017 in Latvia and at both Mart Gallery and The Complex, Dublin in late 2016. In 'Occupy_SomethingSometimeSomewhere' "Nash responds to a series of political events, a societal journey, questioning the limitations of individual agency and the diminishing ability of grassroots movements to affect change". (i) His work at present continues to explore agency, the power of language and mass media influence in our recent history.
