Ciaran Nash's photographs document the workshop of his neighbour, the fitter and mechanic Bobby West. The photographs are part of Nash's ongoing catalogue of workshops, taken as objective studies of places where folk are masters of their own craft as opposed to being alienated from the fruits of their labour. Nash notes, "In the course of two separate visits a conversation was struck between West and I, with many topics being broached including his personal and family history, his experience of emigration and large mining machines in the Australian Outback. Although varying layers and degrees of subjectivity will be brought by a viewer to any photograph through pre-conceived schema, it is a near impossibility to view an image with complete objectivity when so much context has been imparted."
